Ok guys I spoke to our local weather man & he said that Ivan stuff should stay to our north. With a little luck from the racing gods we will keep dry this weekend.  So far the event is a go. The track looks nice & clean I was out there this afternoon. I look forward to seeing everyone this weekend.

BTW Dinner Saturday has been moved to Amberjacks due to a conflict at the Brewery.

I'm looking forward to the weekend on several levels, one being this will be first time in many years behind a car at "track" speeds in general and specifically behind this car's wheel for the first time in 25+ years! Will be strange sensation to say the least.

Went and bought a brand new helmet for the occasion...well, I needed one for CVAR in February, too, so bought it now.

BTW, when looking around for helmets I went to ebay and, boy, are there some deals on there, especially for M rated helmets. There was a practically new M rated Open-faced Simpson or Bell (or Bell's 2nd line) helmet that went for under $30.00 and had a 2000 sticker!  There were several others, along with some full face helmets, that were selling in area of $60.  Does the club need to get some more helmets? Seems like the place to do it. I almost bought the one just to donate but needed to spend what $$ I had on my own.

I ended up buying new helmet. I have a big head and few of the helmets were my size and not that many great deals on SA rated helmets. Some decent deals, just not great.

I was looking for an open face helmet but was talked into a "hybrid" helmet by the dealer: It's the open face style with a visor etc but has a chin protector.

Ever since what's his face's (Ernhardt?) crash, the industry now says, for high speed competition, that full face IS the thing to go with...period.
I just don't like either the looks or the "enclosed" feeling of the "modern" helmets. Besides, I normally race a sedan.  But they say the "chin" protector prevents over extension of neck in head-on crash and, of course, protection from hitting something like the steering wheel.

Stop by the Corvette-red (very bright) Triumph TR4 and say hi and look at a really nice piece of work my brother has done.  Remember, this car has been a racer all it's life, from the factory, and in our family since 1964.

Also, every panel on the car is original I am pretty sure, except mabye the back vallence. Also has original head, transmission, aluminum flywheel, overdrive, Detroit locker rear.  As far as I know, it's only been wrecked once moderately heavy...when I owned the car and was not old enough to race it yet...my driver did it in Little Rock.

BTW, this car ran at Daytona International Speedway in the 60s when I owned it. That was a cool event to attend..National championships...the same one they now hold each year at Mid Ohio and seen on Speed Channel.

I'll see you and the TR4 there.  I had one back when, '72 I think.  Tried to stuff a Ford 289 in it.  But alas, the project was never completed for lack of a transmission.

I can,  because I was down there.  note the term was...  The 924 is an official DNF due to an oil leak.  Right before I left (as the rain was coming), robert came in dragging some tailpipe, but it didn't cause enough damage to end his day.  Every one else seemed to be doing well.  The only other DNF was a 944 Turbo (fully prepped) with no compression in cylinder #2.

Oh yea, might I suggest a different hotel?  I know econo lodge and best western are about the same price, but I don't know how nice they are.  I say this because I cancelled my reservation at HoJo, but they still charged me for the night.  I didn't think that was very cool, especially after a DNF...

Sorry to hear about your disappointing day Zach.
On the up side, can you make it to the FunRun tomorrow?

yea, that's the way it goes.  I wasn't really expecting big things from the car anyway.  I don't know when I'll be in SA tomorrow (I'm in corpus now), so I won't be able to make the fun run.  I'm also gonna miss the next autox.  I have to be in dallas for a promo event for the rally car.  next time I'll be at a SASCA event, it might be december...

Well the FunRun group had a great time in the Hill Country today!  How did the week-end turn out down in the Valley?

I don't know about you guys, but I had a blast this weekend.  We took the rally car out and played in the dirt sunday for an hour and a half! [Cheesy]  The link below has the photos of our practice runs.

Well, some of us may have missed the Fun Run on Sunday, but we had our own good times down in the Valley! [Cheesy]

I guess I'm the first one to post (other than Zach, real sorry about the car man).  My 240 was running great as long as I didn't try to keep up with Mike or John.  The car ran strong, stayed cool and the brakes actually lasted through Saturday timing.  Layed down a good time of about 1.25 for my best run.  Had a pretty cool spin during my 2nd timing lap but I kept it on the pavement.  Sure wish someone had some pics or video of the spin, 'cause it sure looked cool from my point of view! [:-bigeyes]

Saturday was a nice day.  We had a small shower run through that got everything a little damp but cooled the air off.  Things were back to normal shortly after as things dried out.  No water hazards that day.

Saturday night was a whole different matter!  Seems a certain SASCA member has issues with waiting for others in the SA group to finish out their duties on the track, you know who you are...[:-paperbag]

Sunday morning came and we woke up to a light drizzle on the Island, but the track was dry and the sun was out.  We messed around on two wheels for while waiting for everyone else to wake up and decide to join us.  Everybody was getting in some pretty fast laps in the morning.  I finally got my chance to se how long I could hang behind John.  I really had to push both the car and myself pretty hard but I still couldn't keep up on the long 1/2 mile straight.  It was during this time that I finally put an end to my dwindling brake pads as I lost the brakes at the end of the big straight.  You should have seen the eyes of the corner workers as I shot past them in a straight line doing over 100 mph! [Oops!]

Thanks to John for bringing the extra set of pads!  They worked fine for the next 6 or 7 laps that I got to use them.  Just as I was getting used to late braking for turns (did I mention those CarboTech pads are awesome?) the rain started to come down again.  This time it hung around for awhile.  And it came down pretty hard. [Sad]

At about 2, they called the event, we packed up, and headed home.  [:-weepn]

I still had a wonderful time and nothing broke on my car!  Brakes aside.  Just make sure you ask Ryan about his new intercooler ornament!
