new here/car classification

hello! my name is juan! new to autox but have been looking into it for some time and have recently made the move to attend an event!(as a spectator)
really enjoyed what i saw and have been preparing my car for some time
was looking for some help with my car classification
its a 95 honda civic ex coupe
with a b16 and matching trans i/h/e
rear disc conversion w/ rear anti sway bar
drilled slotted rotors all around
koni struts/eibach springs
and various strut tower bars
also my battery is in my trunk and from what ive read it has to be in a marine box if not in stock location
mine is secured with a battery tray and screwed down to the trunk
ive located a box online but wondering if "locally" the box is necessary if my battery is secured already
thanks!
juan

Battery installation is one of our major Tech Inspection issues. We are mostly concerned with a proper retaining scheme. We want to assure that the battery will not fall out and shortr on metal, causing a spark at a time when fuel is likely ro be spilled. If you have a tray and the battery shows no signs of excessive electrolyte spilled around and on it, you will PROBABLY pass inspection. MY advice would be to clean the battery, the brackets and surrounding area thoroughly. (note the "probably" above. I won't commit to anything until I see the car.)

We're so glad to see lots of novices and new people joining our events. Welcome aboard, Juan.
I'm not all familiar with motor swap classifications but as long as the motor and drivetrain are from the same manufacturer as the car itself (Honda for both in your case) you can be in Street Modified (SM). Since yours is a Front wheel drive you can be in SMF (Street Modified, Front). Also, since you are new to the sport you can add on the Novice PAX modifier (N) and be NSMF. The Novice PAX modifier is completely optional but it helps the Novice Chief and other seasoned vets spot you in the crowd to help you out if you would like.
I'm sure others will chime in to correct me as I'm more familiar with Stock and Street Touring classes.

Did you do any ride alongs?
Per helmet, for local autocross a DOT Helmet is approved for use.
So you can use a motorcycle helmet, or whatever.
There are cheap options available, or we have some to loan.
Your car will be (N)SMF, and welcome to it. There's only a few of us in the class, and we're always glad to get more competition. (Or cannon fodder)

i was really hoping to get to race my civic but im more than sure it wouldnt have passed inspection in its condition at the time but i am reading as many safety rules as far as the car goes and working on getting it up to par
as far as the helmet i was looking at this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/390383516010?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
and really hope to be joining the smf class on the track!

That helmet looks to be a good choice.
When I started I also purchased an inexpensive model.
As I advanced, I needed a better helmet, my old one became my passenger helmet.
So it won't be money wasted
If you're not dumping oil, have some tread on the tires and your battery is mounted, you're probably going to pass inspection..
Per ride alongs, don't be shy to ask. But its better to ride along in vehicles more similar to yours.
Other drivers will unlock the secrets of a FWD 4 cylinder to you, someone showing you the ropes in a V8 GTR is not teaching you anything applicable to your car.
I just went to FWD from RWD. I myself still need to do some more ride alongs and watch some videos.
Are you coming to the SPOKES event this Sunday?

There's a little more to it than that. I would suggest you read Section 3.3.3 VEHICLE SAFETY of the SCCA Solo rules to get a realistic picture of what to expect at SASCA Tech inspections. I'll be at the Spokes event Sunday as a spectator and I'll be glad to talk to you and look at your car. I'll have hard copies of Section 3.3.3 with me.
