Firs off my wife and I recently relocated here from Maryland and though I won't have a car out this year I am almost certain to have a car ready for the start of next year. It has been over a decade since I took part in and auto-x event but I still love racing. For Fathers Day this year I asked my wife to attend your last event with me and a couple friends as spectators. Well as luck would have it we weren't there but ten minutes and my wife says to me that it doesn't look that hard but looks like a lot of fun. I gave it a laugh as things always seem easier from the shade of a tree on the sidelines. Another ten minutes passes and she says it again only adds that it would be fun to take part in an event. I was a bit confused but OK maybe at some point she could get a ride along. Sure enough there was only a brief pause before she asks how much much would it cost to get a cheap Miata of her own for auto-x.
Well while I really want to get back into auto-x I also really want to be sure before dropping the money on a Miata, helmet, general maintenance that it would need prior to an event, registration and the rest of it unless I am sure she wants to take part in next season.
So, any chance at the event on the 10th there is somebody who doesn't mind giving her a ride along or two?

I volunteer! My car is probably the most ill handling and driven Miata around but your wife is more than welcome to take a ride. It's the dirty teal colored one.
Remember that the event is at Blossom stadium and not Retama!

I plan on attending this event she can ride in my mini if she would like to. I know it isn't a Miata but it is still quite fun.

I'll let her know. Thanks to all who offer. Depending on how it goes I'll start the Miata search on Monday.

Ride the teal turd! Really nothing turdy about that car, I yet to find a turd that's as much fun. In contrast, you can ride in mine, it's more like a regular BM.

My wife's name is Kelly and she will show up at some point in the mornings if that is OK with you guys. I will be there pretty much all day and stay for clean up. She'll be there with a friend who is in town. I'll be there with my 2002 MR-S.
Who do should she ask for when she gets there?

Well, my passenger side door just stopped opening up so I will unfortunately be unable to give a ride along. Unless she wants to climb through the window or sunroof. Angry I am.

She will need to sign the waiver like everyone else when she enters property. She can park anywhere in the bus lot where our paddock is located. Then she can head up to the timing/scoring trailer and grab a loaner helmet if you dont have one of your own. Look for Craig's teal miata or ask anyone else in grid area if she can get a ride. Most drivers are accommodating of passengers or novice drivers. The grid is our starting area so just watch out for cars entering and moving up in the lines.
Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat!

I will be glad to give rides! Just find the blue Subaru STI TBS 25 in grid and jump on board!

Had a great day today. It is official, I have been given the green light to pick up a first gen Miata (or possibly 2nd) for an auto cross car. All my wife needed was some ride alongs and she is hooked. I stayed the whole day and helped with clean up. Kelly had to leave at the lunch break as we have company in town this weekend.
We'll be attending the meeting on Wed though.

It was nice meeting you guys! There are a lot of resources and opinions on Miatae. When you figure out which years/models you are most interested in, let us know and you'll have a lot of eyes helping with the search. There are some great deals out there. Greg, thanks for helping out!

Nitromidgets, just decide on the amount you want to spend, then search for the best buy you can find. Take your time and get a deal on a good car. There was a 'spec miata' for sale on here a couple of months ago, but it may be more car than you want: http://www.sasca.org/forum/index.php/topic,4419.0.html

There are lots of miatas on sanantonio.craigslist.org and a few of them under $2k. There was a '99 for 2K but ad said it needed engine work.
