Hello All!
I know this one will generate some activity...what's the best bang for your buck, ultra high performance tire?  Keep in mind that they must serve as a daily driver tire for me as well?

Tell me all about it!
Thanks!

Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec seems to be the best buy for a high performance tire that is competitive in street tire classes. John Hale was running them on his STi today at the Spokes event and he had the 4th quickest/lowest time of day out of 88 entries.

Yep, Dunlop Z1 Star Specs are affordable, last a long time, and grip really well in wet or dry conditions.  They would be my obvious choice for daily use + autocross.

No Kumho Ecsta XS suggestions?

Saw a pic earlier today of a stack of Azensis RT-615K?

Thoughts? Huh?

If you plan to do track days, the Kumho XS is a good option.  I still believe the Star Spec is the tire to buy for heavy daily driven cars, though.

Hankook RS3's seem to get pretty good reviews.

I'd try your best to separate Autox and daily tires.
Getting super cheap dailys makes you appreciate good tread. LoL.  I think i tried the kooks on liu's car and they have a huge grace, don't talk, and didn't seem to mind heat.

The kooks just won the last GRM tire shoot out, and they were the cheapest of the group.

Eric, how did your car feel at the Spokes event yesterday on the R tires you bought recently?

HUGE difference.  Relearning everything essentially due to increased traction.  Was a blast to say the least.

I'm running Potenza RE-11's, they're a world apart from the RE-050's I was running.
I have 3 autox runs on them, and they're showing wear.

So do it again, I would go for the Kuhmo XS.  Most bang for the buck factor.

If you have spare wheels, buy some take off slicks from eBay.  $400 and you're good to go.

My tires cost $1600.  To do it again, I would buy spare wheels and used racing tires.
