That was Scott Bowman, he's a regular at Spokes events here in Austin. And he is one hell of a driver.....

The results are at http://www.sasportscar.com/forum/results/results021504.txt
84 drivers showed up for our first autocross of 2004.  This was a non-points event and it went very well, in spite of some computer problems. Sorry for the delay in posting, but it takes time to go through the hand written time logs.
Expect to see some posts about the clubs need for a new laptop computer soon. Thanks to everybody that worked to make this event come off. We got in 6 runs each, even with the equipment issues.

The early count of 93 drivers was based on the computer and the fact that 9 pre-registered drivers did not show up to run.

I had a great time at this event.  I double entered and took passengers out on 11 of my 12 runs.  A Miata on R-compound tires sure is a lot of fun for the dollar.  Be interesting to see how long they last if I keep doing the double entry thing.

hey mike (allen),
where the heck did that 51 second run come from?............your first one out?
did you take a shortcut?

thanks to everyone who got the event there and helped run it.  it went very well.
my dad and i had alot of fun.  i'd like to see how that surface would be a little hotter.  hopefully we can get an event there this spring/summer.

You don't want to see that surface when it gets hotter.  It is not a very high quality pavement job out there, so it breaks up and starts 'chunking' in some spots, especially where oil and fuel has been spilled by drag racers... It gets really bad in the summer time, and we usually end up having to change a course's routing in the middle of an event due to the pavement getting torn up too badly in some spots.

Didn't you know?  Club bylaws state the Prez gets to have fastest time of the day.

We need to do something about the drivers getting times at the finish.  I thought I heard at 52 on one of my runs, but couldn't say for sure.  Some kids told me I got a 48 on a run too, couldn't say.  Never heard it announced.

Jed,
Not sure where that 51 came from either and seeing that no else was in that range I hold it suspect but no harm since it wasn't for points.  Sure looks cool having TTOD even if it was a "glitch".

JohnB,
Yes...but only for non-points events and only if Madame Secretary is close to beating Mr President's best times.  Gotta figure out how not to become the designated tire warmer.

I think we need to address the notification issue and I believe a light board would be the simplest solution...albeit expensive but a solution nonetheless.

Ricky, yeah we don't want to damage the surface any more than it already is.

John, i heard you got a 32!...............that's the only reason i pushed it so hard.

Light-boards are expensive.

Mike, when we ran the auto-x's down in Corpus, we had a stage person with a walkie-talkie, pen and sticky pad writing down car #'s and times as they were read to give to each driver.  That worked really well, because you could stick them on your dash and figure out where you can get rid of more time.  I'd be willing to try out that new worker position at the next event, and I'm sure my dad would too.  That is, if you think it's worth it.

I think it is worth it.  Now I just need a dash to stick them to ...

Or Top Tome of Day.  Of course it may be "False Time of Day" or "Tricky Time of Day" on occasion!  I need to get in on the executive shortcuts around the course.  The Pigtegra is not the best autocrosser on those Michelin Pilots (non sport).

that course was kinda tricky to learn, but it was fun!  nice job to everyone.
thx for the sunscreen, will, but it was too little too late- need to find an avatar of a lobster for a while, i do! hehe   i'm already pumped about next month- hopefully the 442 will be back on its feet and i'll run that one! (and get +20 on every run... hehe) drum brakes all the way around on a 4 ton car with lots of power, bad rear shocks and springs, and tires designed more for show.. should be a great run!! Smiley
