Google Calendar Feature BROKEN!!
SASCA.org Calendar now Synced with Public Google Calendar

If you are like me, then you most likely rely on an Electronic Calendar to keep track of your days.
I personally make heavy use of Googles Calendar.  It's especially nice due to it's ability to easily synchronize with my phones calendar.
It happens that I own an Android phone, but prior to that I had a normal Sony Ericsson phone.
This standard phone (not smart phone) also was able to synchronize with Googles online Calendar.
Ok, you get the point, I'm a fan of Googles calendar, and it's ability to Sync to other calendars and Devices.

The problem?  The SASCA.org online Calendar, while nice in it's ability to link forum threads to Calendar events, did not have a way to synchronize with my personal Calendar.  So, unless I physically checked the calendar on SASCA.org, I didn't know what upcoming events there were.  ... until now!!

As of now, events created on the SASCA.org web calendar are automatically synchronized with a single online Google Calendar!
A Google Calendar that is also publicly visible.

Adding this calendar to my personal Google calendar was a snap.
Open your own Google calendar, click the "Add" link below the "Other Calendars" section on the left side.
Select the "Add a Friend's Calendar".
Enter the email "gcal@sasca.org" into the input box.
Tada!  The SASCA.org calendar is now linked into your personal Calendar.

What if you don't use Google's Calendar?
While I have not tested syncing the SASCA.org Google Calendar with other systems, it should be very possible.
Googles Calendar system uses the "iCalendar" protocol to sync it's dates and events.
This protocol is reported to be compatible with the likes of Microsoft Outlook, and even the Yahoo Calendar.
Thus, if your device, or software supports the ability to load or sync with a public Calendar, you "should" be able

The 4 different methods to access the Google Calendar:
XML - Used to access with XML/RSS compatible program.
ICAL - Used to access with iCalendar compatible program.
HTML - Used to view in Browser
gcal@sasca.org - Used to sync with other Google Calendars

If you have any questions or comments or problems accessing or using the new Google Calendar, just reply in this thread and I'll see what I can do for you.

Shane.

An FYI to anybody (like me) who is/was using the Google Synced calendar.
The plugin that was doing the update to the Google Calendar had a bug of some sort.
It was causing an issue with the forum software.
Until they fix this bug, I've deactivated it.
As a result, the google calendar no longer updates with new/edited events.
