This all goes back to a capable P.A. system.  It's important to hear everyone's times and penalties during their heat, and we just don't have that with the current P.A. system.

Really lame video but it shows my first run DNF, pretty obvious where my problem is (should be a pretty easy one for Dalton to hit out of the park).  Looked like the passenger(Mike) was doing a fancy disco move trying to get me on track!

Had a great time minus the length of first heat, but it still beat going to work.

The minor issues I had from Sunday were:

1. I was the only guy who showed to work grid first heat (which started tough with about 45 drivers and 1-3 Driver car). I got it figured out quick, but having another grid guy was really needed to keep everyone informed. (especially since heat 2 had 3 grid workers)

2. Of course, the PA thing. I think it may be better for the next event to pull the PA closer to the grid since it is more necessary for those without radios to hear who may get a re-run and for competitors to hear the times in their class.  I had several people pull up and say they were getting a re-run only to find they had DNF'd the course. Since I had no idea, I was relying on start to get the correct info.

3. Possibly make a more detailed inspection of the SAE cars. Granted, what happened could have happened to any car, but it seems to happen more to those modified machines. BTW, anyway checked on the driver? When I got there to help him out, he had little hair left on his right arm.

Had a great time even without my machine in top form...

have an experienced passenger with them

That was my problem.. i must have left MYSELF somewhere in the grid Tongue
I see where i DNF'd, and whats frustrating is that its a DNF that made me SLOWER, i still ran a 64, but ultimately its a total wash. It only would have gotten me back to my usual 'dead center' in the results anyway  Wink

So since im such a n00b.. can i attend the upcoming novice event?  Are there trophies for that one?  Evil

Oh and if anyone wants to rip all Craig's videos, get download helper for firefox  Tongue

Having an experienced passenger doesn't make you a n00b, they just serve as an extra pair of useful eyes and you get an extra brain making mental notes for you.  My statement was mainly to all the new comers that kept on DNFing.  But even some of the competitive drivers had an experienced passenger...  so what's the big deal?

i was a first timeer out there on thsi event, andi  had a great time, i enjoyed the whole event,...

the only thing i got bother by, was this one grid worker in the 3rd heat, i did my final run and did not know where to go. so i pulled up to the lane to ask the worker how to get out, cause i was confused, and he approches my car and asks me if i had a re run, and i said not that im trying to get out, but i dont know by where, and all i got from him was a big " ahhhh come one man"

im not blaming anything on him or anything, but i mean i know it was a long day, but at least understand my situation..

but im looking forward to next event...

by anychance does anybody know if i can show up late , and still run,  i can not be missing church that often, but i get off of church at 12pm..so if i were to show up at an event at around 1pm can i still pay and race?

Only experienced people should have the radio.
A corner in heat 1 seemed to be missing that

I was the corner captain at corner 3.  I had a long reply about how experienced guys don't usually run out to work corners, but since I'm a guest here I'll digress. Thanks for a great event SASCA.

i think its the other way around... you cant have an unexperienced person work the trailer or grid. those positions need to get filled first by the experience people. i still think we still do a great job of having experience people on each corner. yes sometimes mistakes are made but for 120+ entries the event went great   Smiley

I don't think there were any real problems with people/workers/participants...it is more the issue with the proper equipment to handle so many entrants. If the fields are going to be 125+ every time...better speakers (as previously mentioned)...some kind of "DNF Indicator Light"...access to a Course Map...ect...would all help make it easier on everybody.

"Having an experienced passenger doesn't make you a n00b"

^^^^^^^^^   Bingo!   Never be ashamed to ask to ride with someone you see as a faster driver. You will find that the "more experienced" drivers will ride along with other experienced drivers to learn as well. People notice the driver who wants to learn. Those that choose not to give off the "I know it all image". You will also find those drivers at the bottom of the page after the event.  There is so much experience out at any one of these events and no one should feel "ashamed" to ride with someone. That is the entire spirit of what we do, camaraderie. My car is always open to anyone who wants a ride-a-long, just as I ask to ride with someone to see where I can improve. Sometimes one ride with another person can shave seconds off your time if you listen to their input. Don't be the dude at the bottom of the page...jump in.

Oh that was probably Wei; he's a really cool guy and jokes quite a bit.  I know this is a bit late but don't take what he said there seriously.  If it happens again just let him or whoever is working grid know that it's your first time.  There's usually playful banter that goes between everyone so he might not have known.  Smiley

I'm glad you had a great time and participated.  Which car was yours?
