SO I was at work when a staff member told me about you guys. Im very interested and would like to know some key information.

Can I show up pay the 25 dollars to drive the auto x and not compete that day?

And if I like it can I become a member that same day (given that I pay the 25 dollars)

And if I do pay is it just a basic discount of 5 dollars for every race I attend.

Do I have to compete?

Im very nervous because I told a friend to come with and wouldnt want to bring him if we show up and get turned down and sent back home.

You won't get turned down or kicked out in any way, unless you're under the influence of drugs or alcohol :-)  And make sure to email your proof of insurance to Ed Harloe (sasca@swbell.net) prior to the event; also do a simple quick check for possible loose items like lug nuts, battery, and/or things you've modified.

Basically you just pay for the entry fee at the table, go through the tech inspection for you car, and that's it.  As soon as you become a member, you pay for the member's price every time you attend until the end of the year.

If you don't feel like competing with anybody, that's also okay - just take your time, and try to push harder as you get more comfortable.   I don't really compete with anybody, either.

Oh yeah, you should tell your buddy to drive, too.  Driving is more fun than watching, or ride alongs.

If you need help or anything that day, you're more than welcome to talk to me. I drive a black Honda Prelude (#70).

Wei covered it pretty good. We wont take your money if you are not going to get to run. Basically there are two reasons for not being able to run.

1. show up too late (regular registration is 7:30-8:30. Late registration is $10 more and runs from 8:30 to 9:00)

2. car doesn't pass tech. We have tools and items to cover the most common reasons for not passing tech, so this is usually not an issue.

In either case you would not pay anything

Sounds good, just a little bit more questions.

How much is it to rent a helmet? (if I like the autocross ill just give a nice one)

What is one of the helmets you guys recommend and most comfortable.

And if my car has a small power steering leak would that make it fail inspection. It doesnt gush out.

Are you guys here every month?

They're free.  You don't even have to ask, just grab one when it's your group's turn to run.  Don't forget to return it though :-p

I personally prefer full face helmets, but they're a bit more expensive, and they could get pretty hot and sweaty during the summer.  For autocorss events, an open face helmet will do just fine.  You can try them out at the event to decide which one you like better.

I don't know about the leak part; maybe you might want to bring some fluid with you, but if it's not serious you'll be fine.  In fact, during the inspection they don't even check for power steering.  They only check things like battery, lug nuts, throttle pedal, throttle cable, brake pedal, seat belt, trash in your car, and that's about it.

I try to autocross with SASCA as often as possible, that's pretty much... uh, almost every event.  A lot of us also race with Spokes (spokes.org); it's a club from Austin, but they autocross very often in San Antonio.  Spokes will actually have an event in two weeks at San Antonio Raceway (east of San Antonio), you should go check it out :-)

Fluid Leaks: Excessive fluid leaks will not pass inspection.

Hey Wei!  Make sure you stop by tech inspection next time, we've been looking for someone to make an example of!  [Cheesy]

One last question. 2 of my rims have 1 small bend on them will that make it difficult to pass inspection?
