Wait a minute?  You mean they want the POI days before the event even happens?

Just some questions that I know you have thought of, Ed, but I need to ask them.

1)  Does this mean that we wont be able to have any walk up racers?  I fear that this will take a HUGE chunk out of the novice class.  I just can't see a first timer emailing you thier POI before an event.

2)  Do we have a fax?  Most everyone out there has access to a fax at work/school but scanners are far more rare.  I would have to go to Kinkos and get it scanned and then email it to you.  Not that I wouldn't do it but we know the generally lazy (and very much procrastinating) nature of the human race[Cheesy]

I'm sure you've asked this but would AT&T be satisfied if we took copies at the event?  I imagine we could get a cheap copier to have on hand at the events and then keep them all on file.

I know you have worked your butt off on this Ed but man I forsee a total mess here.  Turning away first timers, and turning away last minute deciders could very well cut our entries pretty bad.

Thanks Ed.  My scanned POI has been emailed.  Looks like the reward for a job well done is more work!  Thanks for doing it.

We can get an efax setup for the club.  we can also have a multifunction printer.scanner out on site.  I know I have an old Officejet 500 that I will give to the club.  That way we can scan on site if needed.

Yes, they want them on file BEFORE the event.  We got a pass on the
first event because of the time crunch.  If we don't deliver them
before the next event, I fear we might lose the venue. The BOD has
discussed this, and these issues came up.  Nobody is happy about it
and we really hope we can get them to loosen this requirement in
the future.

I don't have a fax, but maybe this is a good time to get one. That
would make it a lot easier for folks.  Good idea.

We need your Proof of Insurance on file by October 17th so that we
can deliver them to AT&T before the event.  As of today (Oct 11th), we
have 55 POI images on file. Some of these cover parent/child or husband/wife
combinations, but still the number is a bit low.

Tip from SPOKESLIST (Thanks Russell)

Some insurance company websites will allow you to download a pdf file of your POI that you can then send to Ed.

Hi Ed,

I need a clarification, do we need a POI per driver or per car? If I have a second driver does he need to send in a POI too? Probably a dumb question but I wanted to make sure as I didn't see this asked anywhere.[:-dunce]

OK.  That generates another question.  I have a separate POI for each car which includes the VIN.  Each POI also lists the regular drivers covered on my policy for each car.  My wife and I are both listed as drivers on each car.  My sons are grown, moved out, and haven't been included as regular drivers on my policy for a long, long time.  What would I have to do if I wanted one of my sons to be able to drive my car in an event?  He is automatically covered by the insurance policy without being listed on the POI as long as he has my permission to drive the car (and isn't engaged in competition) so it doesn't make any sense to add him as a regular driver with my insurance company.  If I did add him (I don't want to!) with the insurance company, the POI would show the car and list him as one of three drivers.  I'd still only need one POI for each vehicle - not each driver.

QUESTION:  Can my son, or anyone else, drive my car in an event without being on my insurance policy as a regular driver?  What's the POI requirement?

I would think that your sons/mothers/fathers/uncles/aunts/grammas/next-door-neighbors/ own personal proof of insurance would be just fine.

I understand what you're saying John.  I just don't see how it makes sense.  I'm not sure what my grandma's insurance on her 1967 Rambler has to do with her driving my Cobra at AT&T!  I would think the legal beagles at AT&T would only be concerned that someone has bought insurance on the car being used in the event.  What am I missing?

As I understand it, your PAI in texas covers your liability when you drive anothers car.  That is why you don't HAVE to buy the rental car agencies insurance and you can waiver that when you rent a car.  AT&T could care less about YOUR CAR, they are worried about the liability and their light poles, etc.

My USAA policy has the following to say under Part A Liability Coverage:  "Covered person as used in this Part means:  1. You or any family member for the ownership, maintenance, or use of any auto or trailer.  2. Any person using your covered auto."  It defines covered auto as:  "1. Any vehicle shown on the Declarations.  2.  Newly acquired vehicle.  3.  Any trailer you own."

Sounds like you're right - a "covered person" is covered in any vehicle - owned or otherwise.  I think it also says I'm right - "..any person using your covered auto."  I guess the bottom line is that it's up to the legal beagles at AT&T as to what POI's are required regardless of what policies say or how they're interpreted.

NEW QUESTION:  What does the AT&T legal department require for me to be able to allow my son to drive my car at a SASCA event on AT&T property?

We are requiring all drivers to show proof of insurance.  That includes your son.
