If I make it to this event, it will only be my second, so dont take this as "words from the wise" its more like "news from the newbie!" but I plan on having EVERYTHING out of the care the night before, place mats, AMP/Speakers (theyre NOT screwed down yet) carpet from the trunk, (loose in a Miata)  Basically strip down/out everything thats not tied down, to include under/behind the seats.  They typically have an air compressor there, BUT there can be a lengthy line to air up  If you can do it before thats better.  Make sure and check you glove box, but be sure to leave the insurance paper!  Youll need that at registration!  Bring a helmet (or two) if you have them, the loaners can be hard to track down and get.   If I make it It'ss be early in the morning 7-730, find me and I'll help as much as a newbie can.   I'll be in a black miata with about half gray primered! Hiya VWill,

Welcome to this addictive sport  [:-devil]

My name is Kevin and I'm the novice coordinator for the club. I'm here to help you with any question about what you need to bring, what to expect when you get there, etc. A good thing for you to do if you have the time is to read the Novice Handbook thats linked on the main page of this site. I read it all before my first event and it helped out a lot.

Also, I am driving a blue Civic Si #72. You are welcome to come talk to me and ride along if you wish (I recommend this). I will also be happy to ride along with you and give you pointers.

Again, welcome to the sport and have fun

My $0.02 would be NOT to run in the first group, but either ride or work first, and then try to use what you've learned.  See ya

I'll definately second that.  I showed up good and early and even helped layout the cones, I think that should be almost a requirement.  It will help you learn the course....not to mention doing the walk throughs....and my biggest mistake was getting too excited in the drive thrugh, I was concentrating on the car in front of me, NOT looking at the cones/course layout like I should have.  And if you have the self control, take it easy on the first run.  ensure you "KNOW" the course before trying to race it.  I DNF'ed my first two runs by missing one of the gates coming out of a turn, the way I did it was going on the wrong side of one of the cones, then proceded to do a small slalom the opposite way, It was actually a tighter, harder slalom, but wrong, so I DNF'ed.  I had to get someone to ride with me and tell me what I did, then I rode with him, and could see the mistake tthat I had been making.  After those three runs, I was able to complete the rest of my runs within about 1 second of each other, (they werent great times, but they were consistent!!)  But seriously in the drive through, dont get excited and push up too close to the guy in front of you/ back off, and look at the course.  I'm still a go for this weekend so find me, we can learn together!!

Mike,

What happened to the full course map?  Are you going to repost it?  The individual parts are great by the way.  Very helpful.

Not yet.  It is only a matter of time.  I'm a Karmann Ghia man, but my 4 year old son is a bug man.  I want to build a race car out of a Ghia.  That is not in the near future though.

I too have been considering a Karman Gia as my next "Project", I have it narrowed down to a Karman Gia, an e30 BMW 325is, a Porsche 924/944 or cutting up the Scirocco and putting a 1.8T behind the front seats driving the rear wheels. I have awhile to think about it though, "The Project" is far from being done.
