Ok, here the first iteration for discussion.

The purpose is to create a general non-course layout and stay close to it.  This layout must allow for a safe event, and facilitate run group changes and overall traffic flow.

1. I'd like to try something different from the "Le Mans" style grid from the last event.  I think opening up the road ONLY for a re-run or for Co-drivers will work out better.  We have a lot of area; we can use the far edge of the parking area for a grid that we're used to.  Point the cars accrding to the Event Start.

2. Tech Inspection can still be placed on the roadway; let's form two lines.  Move the air tank to the grid area that will be otherwise open.  This roadway should be closed at all times; open only for Tech and for ingress/egress by competitors.

3.  I've outlined two possible Start location and two possible Finish locations.  Trailer should be parked close to the Finish so that drivers can hear if they get a re-run.  Light boards and cabling solved elsewhere in forum.

4. Everyone should spread out in the pits and respect previous setups.  I arrived before 7:00AM the last event, snagged a good spot, spread out my stuff and someone squatted in my spot when I went to tech (that was YOU, Black Toyota Truck [Sad!] ).  Had to pack up everything and move.  Everyone can grab up to four spots and it would be safer that way.  Besides, moving the Grid will encourage everyone to move closer to "open up."

5. Designated a No Parking area around registration and high traffic.  Also created a "Pit Road" for safety.  We can use Verizon Cones to outline the outer areas and segregate spectator and competitor traffic.

6. Special Cars, those that don't have a keyed ignition  or otherwise can be parked in this area when not in Grid.

Once we've finalized a dsign, we can "half-and-half" the Map and the Lot  onto a sheet of paper and hand it out during events.

I'd like constructive criticism only.   If you have a problem, come up with a suggestion to fix it, or just don't post your comments.

I had the same idea at the event.  Might smooth out the flow a little bit, and makes it much safer for two driver cars and reruns.  Are you including two driver cars in the area marked "special cars".

I had a little dif idea:

Start and finish along the open side.

Tech can be in front of Registration.

Grid can also be on other lot where the porta potties are.

 Lot something like this:

Ok with me except for the part where the trailer should be parked close to the finish so people can hear if they get re-runs.

The trailer should be parked as close as possible to the start sto timing and scoring has a better chance of actually seeing car numbers at the start.  We couldn't read many of them last time because they were too far away.  We miss about half of them when they are called in from the start.  We can solve the hearing if you got a re-run problem with more/better speakers and/or a speaker placed at the finish.  It looks like I'm going to need to build a remote equip. tree for the finish anyway for the scorboard, slip printer.

We probably ought to put the start and finish close to each other for the next event to give Ricky a chance to test his Cat 5 extension handywork.

How about doing spectator parking in the gravel lot to keep the flow from the course to the grid uninterrupted?  That'll also keep spectators from stealing your favorite pit parking spot.

We should really make sure that all spectators do NOT park in the pits. With the amount of people that were watching and taking all the racer's pit spots (not to mention the security risk with all our wheels and tools in easy reach) I was getting a bit concerned.

1. Trailer is to placed at Start, can we post a worker w/radio to advise drivers of re-runs at remote finish when needed?

2. Grid positioned based on Start and Finish where logical, cars to face start.  Unused Grid area can be used as Pits.

3. No Parking Zone at all times, place registration/air tank in relation to Grid.

4. Tech to take place at Grid location.  Roadway between lots to stay as open as possible, one lane for Co-Driver||Multi-entry cars in session only and one lane for called re-runs during session.  Single Driver Cars cars, cars not called for re-runs to return to Grid.  Special Cars not in session can be parked along No Parking area along Grid.

5. Place only Start or Finish along Entrance route.  Entrance to Verizon must remain passable at all times during event for safety reasons.  Placing Grid, or Start and Finish along entrance route would cause a lot of confusion.

Thanks for suggestion, review and advise some more.

Spectator parking could probably be located in the gravel parking lot. That would eliminate the traffic at the edge of the track. Also, Robert Yuras mentioned in a conversation  that Verizon management would prefer to keep people away from that area, and it's probably a good idea to keep them happy (correct me if I'm wrong Robert).

These ideas are looking really good.  I like the idea of having Grid
and Pit in the lot we used for Pit last time.  Another option for
Spectator parking is the Handicap lot. This is a long thin lot below
the gravel lot. Its right behind where the Porta John was located
last time.

We could have signs saying "Competitors Only" and
"Specator Parking".  A wall of cones spaced wide enough to
still drive between will probably keep most specators from
entering the Pit/Grid lot.

We should also try to put the trailer close enough to start to read
the car numbers. The key too good flow when the event is running
is the ability for the timing crew to know who is staging.

Next event is Feb 13.  I expect another great event.  This is
working out really well.

The gravel lot is gravel, glass and tire-damaging metal bits.  Also, there is expensive and tempting equipment that we may not secure without a volunteer.  I'd keep that closed.

However, using the Harley-Davidson and Handicap Parking as Spectator Parking works out well.  Room for at least 50 - 100 cars.  Keeps pedestrian traffic away from Grid and Pits, and also allows us to practically close the competitive area, enhancing security.

We'll need to keep some spaces reserved for true Handicapped Parking.

There will be a problem if we have a finish or start at that corner, we'll need to use (more Verizon) pylons to create a travel lane away from the danger along driveway of the traffic circle.

I'll come up with a pylon diagram I'd like to use, where we take the the three-lane entrance immediately down to two lanes, and then down to one lane just before Spectator Parking.

I think we have a venue, thanks everyone

Trailer at Start -- Use Grid for Tech -- place registration, air tank and reserved cars along No Parking Zone -- spread out and give room in the Pits -- unused Grid can be used as additional Pits --

Speaking of the CAT-5 extension idea (I saw Mike mention it earlier in this thread)... We used it and it worked beautifully at this last event, even though it wasn't really required where the trailer and light board were sitting.
