Russell Zotz and I went out to Version Amphitheater this afternoon and walked over to the area we will be running on and it is huge! Lots of room for parking, pits, grid and spectators. It will lend it's self to many different configurations with several different ways to enter and exit the course. It looks like someone has been 'trying out' the lot, a definite line has developed around several of the light standards and some of them look like they might have been made by a white Chevy truck!! I hope that lots of you guys and gals out there will step up and help make this first outing a successful one. I am up for whatever needs to be done as long as it dosen't require a lot of standing; I turn 56 the day before the event so these old bones are getting tired. (Besides I may be hung-over!)

I've also gone out to the site.
1. There are a lot of critters around. We need to be pro-active regarding the potential sound issue. Can we get that meter and check decibel levels throughout the event?
2. Lot grade is significant -- we need to be cautious on off-camber turns in some areas.
3. They have a ton of cones, can we borrow some?
4. It's a good distance to nearby stores for food and fuel. Will Verison allows us to do a little porta-BBQ on the property? Can SASCA provide ice water (in those jugs)?
5. We should forewarn everyone that speeding down the entrance is forbidden as it practically runs into the event course. Mayve we should divert traffic onto the edge of lot "D" that runs parallel to the entrance road.
It looks great. I am ready. My C4 isn't -- but I am [^]

Do you think we would be any louder than the Scorps when they play there? I've not been there for a concert, but I understand they get pretty loud, hard to believe we would be any louder. But we should establish some sort of sound restriction before it becomes an issue. I think Tom Calkin has a db meter. Is there an SCCA established procedure for measuring and enforcing noise restrictions?

2005 Solo rules just say "Any car deemed by Event Chairman...to be excessively loud shall not compete...", so theorhetically, it could be limited to the level of, say, an 02 VW GTI 337...
And SASCA has a dB meter. I remember using it on the train and a couple of cars (to include Andy Hollis' Honda).

The sounds level is usually set by the site. At the Dome, we were supposed to be below 95dB. Most of the trains there hit 108+ regularly.

Sid- Roger Johnson from Houston SCCA does a course design school, which I consider top-notch. I learned a lot from it that has helped my driving. The booklet that he gives out at the training is available online. Do a search for it.

I'm still tweaking the course, I'll post the map and some other info as soon as I'm finished.
