September 2010 SASCA meeting minutes
Meeting called to order: 7:35pm. SASCA president, Ricky Crow, presiding.
Old Business
August 8th Event
Ricky Crow reported that Craig's second course was awesome. Seventy-one drivers got seven runs each. Most drivers were able to leave by 3:15 to 3:30pm and the trailer was back at its storage location b 4pm.
New Laptop
Ricky Crow reported that the new laptop worked well. The USB adapter successfully allowed the old printer to be used.
Potential Sites
Ricky Crow reported that the Heroes Stadium lot that had been discussed previously is not appropriate for autocross. The surface has a lot of loose gravel and aggregate and is worse than Blossom was before the repaving.
Ricky added that he still plans to contact Retama Park but has not done so yet.
New Business
Course Markings
Ricky Crow reported that flour was used to mark key areas of the August course. He believes that it helped but next time the minimum setting on the line spreader should be used. It was very difficult to clean up after the event. Craig Nishioka added that he used 50 pounds of flour on the “WFO” setting. Ricky reported that at Nationals they put down a thin strip then go over it with a push broom with good results.
Waivers
Ricky Crow asked if more insurance waivers had been ordered or received. Mike Roetheli answered that the insurance company keeps sending waiver sheets for rally events. He will call them again.
September 26th Event
Ricky Crow reported that Dan Scanlon has volunteered to be eventmaster for the September event. He asked for volunteers to tow the trailer. Craig Nishioka volunteered to tow in the afternoon. Ricky said he would tow in the morning or ask Wally Darbyshire to help.
Morning Workers
Craig Nishioka suggested that morning workers be required to help clean up after events also. Ricky Crow calculated that the morning work assignments require about the same amount of time as regular worker shifts. Tom Conklin suggested that we remind morning workers that they may have to work again during the event if participation is low.
Additional Events
Ricky Crow asked for suggestions for additional events. Dalton Wall suggested an X-Rally, joking that he would use two Xes and call it the Dos Equis Rally. It would be a gimmick rally requiring minimal manpower during the rally. Ricky asked if it would be an official SASCA event and if it would require insurance. No decision was reached on making it an official event but Mike Roetheli will ask the insurance company if coverage is available. Ricky asked about potential dates. Mike suggested the first or second weekends in November but Chris Leclair noted there are Spokes and SASCA events those weekends. Tom Conklin suggested doing it before the end of year party, which was well-received.
Ricky noted that a novice school has been tentatively planned for October and that the Saturday before the November event (11/6/10) would be good too. Ricky will call Blossom to ask about available dates. Planning needs to begin immediately.
Chris Leclair reported that a SASCA vs. Spokes drag event is planned for Wednesday, November 10th.
End of the Year Party
Mike Roetheli noted that Jay Cryderman is not planning to host the EOY party again this year. Craig Nishioka suggested that we vote to have it at Jay's house anyway before Jay returns. Craig also noted that Leo recently purchased a hall that might be appropriate. Mike pointed out that we could have it catered
at the hall. Laura Tennant added that Rudy's caters. Tom Conklin suggested renting the hall and holding a potluck. Craig said that Jay's house was way better than other recent locations and suggested asking for someone to host it. He also recommended Speck's General Store.
Nationals
Ricky Crow reminded the meeting that Nationals starts the Tuesday after Labor Day. Ricky then told Nationals war stories but never mentioned cars or driving.
Ladies Classes
Ricky Crow reported that adding ladies' classes has been suggested. Ricky noted that they would be easy to implement and could be discussed for next year but would not be implemented this season. There was discussion about the large number of current classes and speculation about how many female participants would compete in ladies' classes if available. Dalton Wall noted that at the last event, fully 1/3 of the classes had only one driver. Ricky concluded that a cause-champion is needed to propose a way to make it work.
Car Classing
Dalton Wall voiced concerns about incorrectly classified cars, particularly about their effect on overall PAX standings. Ricky Crow noted that most are caught at registration. Mike Roetheli added that tech inspection catches some too. Dalton suggested that any competitor should be able to file classing protests, not only competitors in the same class.
Treasurer's Report
Mike Roetheli gave a brief report on the club's finances. Since January, SASCA has taken in a little bit more than was spent, including the purchase of the timing system. Details were given but will not be posted here. Come to the meeting if you want to know this stuff.
Equipment
Tom Conklin reported that the big PA speakers need repair or replacement. Craig Nishioka will take a look. Dalton Wall has purchased tape for tech inspection and Craig has purchased wristbands. Ricky Crow added that SASCA needs either trash bags or TP. Tom Conklin suggested getting a trash bag full of TP. Craig will handle it.
